How to choose the carbon battery and alkaline battery rightly?

alkaline batteries and carbon batteries are indispensable in life.

Are you using them correctly? How to choose correctly?

Whether it is the commonly used air conditioner remote control, TV remote control or children’s toys, wireless mouse keyboard, quartz clock electronic watch, or radio in life, batteries are indispensable. When we go to the store to buy batteries, we usually ask whether they are cheaper or more expensive, but few people will ask whether we use alkaline batteries or carbon batteries.

Today we will briefly learn about these two different batteries. The full name of carbon battery should be carbon zinc battery (because its positive electrode is generally carbon rod and negative electrode is zinc skin), also known as zinc manganese battery, which is the most common dry battery. It has the characteristics of low price and safe and reliable use. Based on environmental protection factors, it still contains cadmium components, so it must be recycled to avoid damage to the earth’s environment. The advantages of carbon batteries are obvious.

Carbon batteries are easy to use, cheap, and there are many types and prices to choose from. Then the natural disadvantages are also obvious. For example, it cannot be recycled. Although the one-time investment cost is very low, the cumulative use cost is very worthy of attention. Moreover, this battery contains harmful substances such as mercury and cadmium, which damage the environment.

Carbon battery Carbon battery is also called dry battery, which is relative to the battery with flowable electrolyte. Carbon battery is suitable for flashlight, semiconductor radio, tape recorder, electronic clock, toys, etc., mainly used for low-power appliances, such as clocks, wireless mouse, etc. High-power appliances should use alkaline batteries, such as cameras. Some cameras can't support alkaline, so nickel-metal hydride is needed. Carbon battery is the most widely used battery in our lives. The battery we contact the most and the earliest should be this type. It has the characteristics of low price and wide application.

Alkaline battery Alkaline battery adopts the opposite electrode structure of ordinary battery in structure, which increases the relative area between positive and negative electrodes, and replaces ammonium chloride and zinc chloride solution with highly conductive potassium hydroxide solution. The negative zinc is also changed from flake to granular, which increases the reaction area of the negative electrode. In addition, high-performance electrolytic manganese powder is used, so the electrical performance is greatly improved.

How to distinguish these two different batteries?

1. Look at the product logo For the batteries we usually use, the category of alkaline batteries is marked as LR, such as "LR6" for No. 5 alkaline batteries, and "LR03" for No. 7 alkaline batteries; the category of ordinary dry batteries is marked as R, such as "R6P" for high-power No. 5 ordinary batteries, and "R03C" for high-capacity No. 7 ordinary batteries. In addition, alkaline batteries will be marked with the words "ALKALINE".

2. Different weight For the same model of batteries, alkaline batteries are generally much heavier than ordinary dry batteries.

3. Touch with your hands Due to the different packaging methods of the two, alkaline batteries can feel a circle of circular grooves at the end close to the negative pole, while ordinary carbon batteries do not. What should you pay attention to in daily use? Although alkaline batteries have many advantages, they can be used for a long time and have sufficient power. However, they must be used according to the instructions in daily use. For example, the quartz electronic watches we often use are not suitable for alkaline batteries. Because for watches, the movement of the watch only needs a small current to cope with it. Using alkaline batteries or rechargeable batteries will damage the movement, causing inaccurate timekeeping, and even burning the movement, affecting the service life. Carbon batteries are mainly used in low-power appliances, such as watches, remote controls, etc., while alkaline batteries should be used for those with higher power consumption, such as cameras, children's toy cars, and remote control cars. Some cameras require nickel-hydrogen batteries with higher power.

Therefore, when choosing batteries, you must choose correctly according to the instructions.
